Going through some of Dad's sketch books, there must be 20 sketches of that Abstract Bull. And there was a small wax of it at some point. And a small study in steel. He would go over it and over it and over it. And these were just visual parts of his thought process that he left trails of along the way as this thing developed in his mind. And then finally he'd get to the point he felt like he could successfully describe it and hed put it into a serious piece of art, whether it be a more complete drawing or a painting or a piece of bronze. But the rest of it is more like a roadmap. This is proof positive that he would take one idea and spend a lifetime with it - over and over and over again - so you see it transcribed in different ways at different times in the course of his life. And you see what it escalated to and how he wrapped up his thoughts. And what's tricky about it is that you can find parts of these thoughts in other pieces as he's moving back and forth with the same concept, but executing it in different ways.
