This piece is a tribute to the Boss, bringing together two incredibly recognizable elements of Bruce Springsteen’s career: the iconic cover of Born in the U.S.A. and his Telecaster, known as “The Mutt.” The guitar became synonymous with Springsteen and was played throughout his career, making it much more than simply an instrument associated with his music.
“The Mutt” itself was an infusion of several different guitars, which is ultimately where its nickname came from. Springsteen has often referred to the guitar as being an extension of his body, which puts its importance into perspective. It wasn’t simply something he performed with; it became inseparable from the image of Springsteen as an artist and performer.
By placing the imagery of Born in the U.S.A. alongside the guitar, the composition brings together two defining symbols associated with the Boss. One represents an instantly recognizable moment in his career, while the other represents the instrument that was physically with him throughout it. Together, they create a tribute to Springsteen and the imagery that has become so closely connected to his legacy.
