One of my favorites. The top image shows Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift in a still from the 1959 film Suddenly, Last Summer. But for me, it’s less about the film itself and more about the tension in their body language. They’re incredibly close, but they look heated, almost like they’re on the verge of a literal split.
Then I juxtaposed that with this decadent banana split below, which brings an unexpected sense of humor to the piece. You have all of this tension and drama happening above, and then this completely over-the-top dessert underneath. I love that contrast. It takes a classic Hollywood moment and gives it a playful double meaning. At first, the two images feel completely unrelated, but once you make that connection, you start to see the piece differently. There’s the glamour and intensity of old Hollywood, but there’s also wit and a little absurdity to it.
That balance is what I love about Big Split.
